Frequently Asked Questions

What is Echo Fluent?

Echo Fluent helps you practise spoken English using podcasts you already listen to. Pick a podcast, and each episode is broken into short chunks. Listen to a chunk, read along with the transcript, then record yourself repeating it — a technique called shadowing. Comparing your recording to the original helps your pronunciation and rhythm improve naturally.

How do I get started?
  1. Subscribe to a podcast from the Library tab.
  2. Open an episode — Echo Fluent breaks it into practice chunks automatically.
  3. Tap a chunk to listen, read the transcript, and record yourself.
  4. Check the Progress tab to see your daily streak and completed chunks.
What's the difference between a free and Premium account?

Every account can practise up to two distinct chunks per day at no cost. Once you've opened your third new chunk that day, you'll be prompted to upgrade to Premium. Premium removes the daily limit entirely, so you can practise as much as you like.

Note: revisiting a chunk you've already opened that day doesn't use up your free allowance — only new chunks count.

How much does Premium cost, and how do I subscribe?

Premium is available as a monthly or yearly auto-renewable subscription, billed through your Apple ID. Prices are shown in your local currency on the upgrade screen before you confirm. You can subscribe from the paywall shown when you reach the daily limit, or anytime from Settings.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Go to Settings → Manage Subscription in the app, which opens your subscription settings in the App Store. From there you can change plans or cancel — Echo Fluent doesn't process cancellations directly, since Apple manages all billing.

I upgraded to Premium but the app still shows me as a free user. What do I do?

Open Settings and tap Restore Purchases. This re-checks your Apple ID for an active subscription and restores Premium access. This is also the fix if you've reinstalled the app or switched to a new device and Premium hasn't picked up automatically.

Does Echo Fluent sync across my devices?

Yes. Your podcasts, practice history, streaks, and Premium status are automatically backed up to iCloud and sync across any device signed in with the same Apple ID. Make sure iCloud is enabled for Echo Fluent under your device's Settings → [your name] → iCloud.

Why does Echo Fluent ask for microphone and speech recognition access?
  • Microphone — needed so you can record yourself speaking along with each practice chunk.
  • Speech recognition — used on-device to transcribe podcast episodes into practice chunks.

If you decline either permission, you can still browse and listen to podcasts, but recording or transcribing new episodes won't work. You can turn permissions back on anytime in your device's Settings → Privacy & Security.

A podcast episode won't download or transcribe. What should I try?
  • Check that you have an active internet connection.
  • Make sure you have enough free storage on your device.
  • Force-quit and reopen Echo Fluent, then try the episode again.
My recording didn't save, or playback sounds wrong.

Make sure microphone access is allowed for Echo Fluent (Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone) and that no other app is currently using the microphone. If the issue continues, try force-quitting and reopening the app.

How do I delete my data?

Deleting a podcast or episode from within the app removes its downloaded audio and practice history from your device and iCloud. To remove all Echo Fluent data, delete the app — this clears local data, and you can also turn off iCloud sync for the app under your device's iCloud settings to remove data stored there.

Where can I read the Privacy Policy?
